One of the obvious reasons for choosing haematite, is the
beautiful and classy look of the beads. The metalic luster
of haematite is stunning when used in jewellery, a rare
characteristic that is due to the high metal content.
The other reason for choosing haematite is the local iron ore
mining connection to Cumbria, the beautiful county in which
we live and work. Rich iron ore deposits, known as haematite,
are found in abundance in the limestone layers of West Cumbria.
Florence Mine (Egremont, Cumbria) was the last working iron
ore mine in Europe, and is part of the rich mining history of West
Cumbria.
